I grew up singing songs about Jesus
I grew up singing songs of the south
I grew up singing in a gospel choir
harmonizing in that old baptist way

my first girlfriend's name was Dixie
she wore her wranglers like none I'd ever seen
she baked her kettle corn
and taught me so much more
than just how to waltz across that old dance floor

I might not get to heaven but I sing with the angel band

I don't go to church 'cause rank strangers are all I see

I grew up eating catfish and crawdads
